CLUB HISTORY

For over 50 years, the Carleton College Rugby Football Club has thrived under student leadership,
retaining high standards of sportsmanship, ethical behavior and fair play. The club’s charter was built on a platform of teamwork, understanding, co-operation, bringing honor to Carleton and respect for fellow participants. Both men’s and women’s teams have enjoyed significant participation numbers and competitive success, including a Division III national title and multiple tournament and regional championships. Alumni of the program have gone on to play and coach for nationally-ranked clubs, regional select sides, and World Cup teams.

CARLETON WOMEN’S RUGBY

Founded in 1978 by student Pixie Newman as the first women’s college rugby club in Minnesota, the team has achieved two national championship appearances, winning the NCAA Division III title in 2011, and maintained a legacy of strong team camaraderie.

Accommodating women of all sizes and skills, the team is comprised of everyone from the most serious of varsity and national athletes, to women just looking for something new and fun to try.

CARLETON MEN’S RUGBY

Founded in 1968, Carleton Men’s Rugby continually reign over  Minnesota and U.S. rugby with unrivaled strength and ability. A community of all sizes, skills, and experience levels, this gang of hooligans stand bound by a love of rugby football. The Oak can usually be found mastering the craft of gameplay on their home pitch, scoring all A’s on their schoolwork, or getting up to Northfield shenanigans (but not on Fridays because Saturday’s a rugby day). Whether he’s pushing past the try line or celebrating a week of hard work, you can count on a Carleton rugger to strive both on and off the pitch.
